Coffee & Tea Set Cleaning and Maintenance Guide

Jun. 24, 2025

I. Cleaning Tips for Different Materials

1. Ceramic

Daily Cleaning:

Rinse off residue with warm water, and gently wipe with a soft cloth or sponge dipped in neutral detergent. Avoid using steel wool to scratch the glaze.

For tea or coffee stains, soak in warm water with white vinegar for 10 minutes, then wipe with a soft cloth.

Special Maintenance:

Boil new bone china tea sets in clean water for 5 minutes before first use to enhance durability.

Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as rinsing a hot ceramic teapot with cold water to prevent cracking.

2. Glassware

Daily Cleaning:

Soak transparent glass in diluted lemon juice or baking soda water to remove coffee or tea stains.

Use a soft-bristle bottle brush + neutral detergent to clean narrow-mouthed glass pots thoroughly.

Precautions:

Avoid collisions with sharp objects; wrap in soft cloth when storing to prevent scratches or breakage.

3. Stainless Steel

Daily Cleaning:

Wash with warm water and neutral detergent; use non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner for tough stains.

Disassemble coffee machine filters, milk frothers, and so on, to remove solidified coffee oil.

Rust Prevention:

Dry thoroughly after cleaning to avoid rust; wipe minor rust with lemon slices and rinse.

4. Zisha

Professional Cleaning:

Clean with water only, detergents destroy the tea-absorbing property.

Empty tea dregs promptly, rinse with hot water, brush gently with a soft tea brush, and air dry.

"Pot Cultivation" Tips:

Use one pot for one type of tea; after each use, pour hot tea over the pot and wipe with a tea towel to form a uniform patina.

Dry completely before long-term storage to prevent mold.

5. Bone China

Delicate Care:

Wipe gently with a soft cloth dipped in a neutral detergent, avoiding friction on patterns.

Remove stains with toothpaste, then rinse with water.

Storage:

Separate with soft paper when stacking to prevent chipping of rims or handles.

II. Long-Term Storage Principles

Thorough Drying: Dry with a clean towel or invert to drain, especially for Zisha or wooden tea trays.

Categorized Storage:

Ceramic/bone china: Wrap in soft paper, avoid stacking under pressure.

Glassware: Store separately with foam cloth for cushioning.

Stainless steel: Place in a ventilated box after drying.

Regular "Revival": Flush unused tea sets with hot water monthly.

III. Special Stain Removal Tips

Coffee Oil Stains: Make a paste with warm water + baking soda, apply, let sit for 5 min, then wipe.

Tea Scale Spots: Rub with a sponge dipped in salt; fine salt granules remove stubborn stains.

Stainless Steel Rust: Wipe with lemon slices, rinse, then coat with cooking oil to prevent rust.

IV. Prohibited Actions

Use steel wool/abrasives on ceramic/glass (causes scratches).

Expose Zisha to detergents or oil (damages patina formation).

Microwave bone china (metal patterns may spark).

Dry-burn stainless steel coffee pots (damages coating and deforms).

Proper care extends the lifespan of your coffee and tea set, preserving the pure taste of every brew. Whether for daily use or collectibles, mindful maintenance elevates every sipping experience.
