Guide to Cleaning and Maintaining Glass Cups and Mugs

May. 30, 2025

I. Daily Cleaning Methods

Key Points for Cleaning Glass Cups

Tea or Coffee Stains: Soak in diluted white vinegar or with lemon slices for 10–15 minutes, then rinse with water.

Grease Stains: Add a small amount of baking soda or use warm rice-washing water for better decontamination.

Prompt Cleaning: Rinse with warm water as soon as possible after use to prevent odor or staining from beverage residues that have been left for too long.

Mild Detergent: Use a soft sponge or dishcloth dipped in neutral detergent to gently wipe the cup. Avoid steel wool or rough materials to prevent scratching the glass wall.

Thorough Rinsing: After cleaning, rinse off detergent residues with running water. Place the cup upside down to drain or dry with a clean soft cloth to avoid water spots.

Key Points for Cleaning Mugs

Mugs with Coatings or Patterns: Avoid strong acidic or alkaline detergents to prevent corrosion of the patterns or coatings.

Ceramic Mugs: For the tea scale, apply salt granules or toothpaste and gently wipe, then rinse with water.

Focus on the Rim and Inner Wall: As mugs come into frequent contact with lips, the rim is prone to oil and lipstick residue, which should be scrubbed with a sponge. For residual drinks on the inner wall, gently wash with warm water and a small amount of detergent.

Cleaning Handle Gaps: The junction between the handle and the cup body is prone to dirt buildup. Use a thin cotton swab or small brush for deep cleaning.

II. Maintenance Precautions

Avoid Sudden Temperature Changes

Glass cups are prone to cracking due to extreme temperature differences. For example, do not rinse a cup that has just held hot water with cold water immediately; let it cool to room temperature first.

Mugs should also avoid sudden exposure to high or low temperatures to prevent cracking.

Proper Storage

Drain Thoroughly: Ensure cups are completely dry before storage to avoid odor or mold growth from moisture.

Layered Placement: Glass cups can be inverted on a cup rack or stacked with cup mats in between to prevent collision and damage. Mugs are recommended to be placed upside down or hung on hooks to save space and maintain hygiene.

Light Protection: Mugs with colorful patterns should avoid long-term exposure to sunlight to prevent fading of the pigments.

Regular Disinfection

High-Temperature Disinfection Weekly: Boil glass cups and mugs in water for 5–10 minutes, or clean them with the high-temperature mode of a dishwasher.

Special Period Disinfection: During special periods, soak in diluted disinfectant for 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water.

III. Tips for Extending Service Life

Avoid Hard Object Collisions: Keep glass cups and mugs away from hard objects like knives and cutlery, and handle them gently during use or cleaning.

Reduce Chemical Damage: Avoid using the cups to hold strong acidic or alkaline liquids, as long-term storage may corrode the material.

Regular Inspection: If cracks, chips, or coating peeling are found, replace the cups promptly to prevent potential hazards during use.

By following these methods, you can keep glass cups and mugs clean and beautiful while extending their service life, making every sip a safe and pleasant experience.
